For the longest time, even though I was into beauty and skincare products, I didn’t know much about the prestigious brand La Mer. All I knew was that celebrities like Kate Hudson, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez were die-hard fans, and if JLo was using it then it must be good.
However, I for one am not a Hollywood celebrity that was defecating money, so La Mer was always out of my price range but managed to stay in my wish list. But not too long ago, I was lucky enough to be presented with the opportunity to test out the La Mer The Concentrate and I was enthralled to see the magic it would unleash on my skin.
My skin before using La Mer The Concentrate:
In the recent years, I have been pretty obsessed about skincare routines and had developed a pretty rigorous system of my own. With age, I knew that my skin needed a lot of attention and after two pregnancies, my hormones were all out of whack, which gave me another reason to start investing in skincare products. My skin type is combination (in my opinion, the worst type of all), I have an oily t-zone and my cheeks are a little dry. On top of all that goodness, my skin has also been battling with redness and some irritation. Basically, my skin condition is more complicated than my love life in my 20s.
Unlike a lot of skincare products, The Concentrate by La Mer has an interesting story behind it. After suffering from a laboratory incident, Dr. Max Huber – an aerospace physicist, was inspired to create a serum that could change the condition of his skin. Combining the legendary formula of Miracle Broth™️ with La Mer’s exclusive Lime Tea (known to be a powerful anti-oxidant ingredient), marine and plant extracts, The Concentrate helps to stabilise fragile skin and renew its appearance. The silky serum promises to improve the suppleness and smoothness of the skin, so much so that it’ll look like a baby’s bum! It’s also very important to highlight that this product is free from Parabens, Phthalates and Sulfates.
When I started using The Concentrate, I kept my routine simple; I start off with a cleanse, applied the serum, followed by my usual moisturiser, and I did this twice a day.
At first application, I noticed its satiny white, silicone-like texture is kind of thicker than what I am used to in my serum and there is a sort of floral, and powdery scent that comes with it. Despite being a little thick in consistency, the serum absorbed almost immediately and didn’t leave any sticky residue, which made it perfect to use under my makeup products.
Within two weeks, I could see the difference in the appearance of my skin as it was looking well-hydrated and somewhat healthier because the redness had calmed. By the third week, I had completely transformed into JLO, that’s how powerful this serum is.
I am obviously kidding but the redness was definitely gone by then and I felt confident enough to rock my skin sans makeup. Having my skin looking its best probably since before the birth of my kids, I was feeling great. I would always look forward to my skincare routine and with spending a lot of time in the sun with my kids, I found that the serum helped soothe my skin at the end of the day.
After weeks of using La Mer’s The Concentrate, I now finally understand why it’s been given the moniker –– Skincare Hero. With spending a lot of my time in the sun, this serum helped “heal” my skin during the night and if ever I had any unsightly blemish, all I had to do was apply a small amount of The Concentrate and it would disappear within days.
My skin also appeared to be more radiant, hydrated, and supple. It’s almost as if it turned back time –– okay, that’s a bit of an exaggeration but The Concentrate surely did help with eliminating redness and the fact that I had less of an oily skin is already a major win for me.
Will I repurchase?
Look, I am not gonna beat around the bush, this serum is expensive but it is effective, which is what you want in a skincare product. They say if you take care of your skin and nourish it with the right stuff, you’ll never need to wear makeup. If you can afford this bottle then go for it. It’s definitely worth the purchase.
